The Varsity Field Hockey Team is on a roll this year with an 8-3 record. With 3 more regular-season games left, they are on the right path for playoffs. Despite injuries and losses, the team has continued to prove strong, compatible, and determined to keep growing, learning, and playing better. The team has become known for its exceptional passing, which goes to show the dominant teamwork the team holds. The highlight of the season would have to be the team’s game against Hackley, which proved to be a very close and hard-fought game that displayed much of the team’s skills and ability to match undefeated Hackley. The team hopes to win their last 3 games and make it to the playoffs this season.
This season’s captains are seniors Maddy Brooks (forward), Sarah Weber (defender), Eloise Harcourt (goalie), and Daphne Zuckerman (forward). These captains have contributed immensely to this season’s prevailing theme of victory, strength, and teamwork.
Some standout players this season would be junior Lauren Plous (defender), with her incredible dribbling skills that can navigate her around any quantity of defenders, junior Camille Newman (midfield), with her hard hits on goal and overall outstanding stick skills, and sophomore Abby Trapp (midfield), with her speed and stick skills, can take the ball up and down the field with ease.
A special shoutout goes out to the injured members of the team; senior Daphne Zuckerman (forward), who is recovering from a torn ACL, senior Eloise Harcourt (goalie), who recently dislocated her knee, sophomore Sara Snyder (goalie), who is recovering from a concussion, and freshman Eliza Stulman (forward), who is out with a stress fracture in her foot.
Honorable players this season include junior Holly Wemple (forward), who has recently recovered from surgery and was able to begin playing again in mid-September. Holly is an instrumental player on the team, scoring 3 goals alone during the team’s game against Horace Mann in the span of some 15 minutes. At center forward, she is an unbeatable player with wonderful stick skills and can easily navigate her way around defenders. Another honorable player includes freshman Savannah (goalie). Though Savannah is on junior varsity Field Hockey, she has stepped in to play three games against Brearley, Masters, and Horace Mann, all of the games of which the team won, due to the injuries of both varsity goalies, sophomore Sara Snyder and senior Eloise Harcourt. Savannah has proven to be a talented, quick, and instrumental player with many saves in the few games she has played.
