The defending NYSAIS state champions are halfway through their repeat campaign, with no better time than the present to kick off a winning streak. The team started their season off exceptionally strong with two wins, including an 11-1 victory against Trevor Day. However, they've lost 4 of their last 6 games to give them a current record of 5-6, with only two of those wins being league games. Fortunately, the team still has a great shot at making the playoffs, as they're currently sitting in 4th place in the Ivy Prep League standings. Their homecoming game result was unfortunate as they lost to Hackley with a final score of 4-2, but the team showed their true spirit and resilience in the final five minutes of the game when junior Natalie Delson quickly scored two great goals and gave the fans something to cheer about late in the game. Delson, along with seniors Ryan McKenzie, Cassie Cribs, and Caroline Ciagne, have had outstanding seasons and look to continue that moving onto the final stretch and into the playoffs. Another positive is that of the final six games of the season, the girls play four at home. Now more than ever is an extremely important time for our fans to show up to The Nest as an energy boost from the crowd, could be vital to a win.

After losing three prominent seniors last season, the Boys Varsity Soccer team has struggled to fulfil their goal of repeating their championship season in 2019. They started the season off strong with an electric win at The Nest against Trinity, as a difficult September followed, but ended it with a strong win against Avenues. However, after a fantastic homecoming win against Hackley, BVS has gained some momentum ahead of the final stretch of the season, with a huge comeback win against Dalton on October 7th adding to the energy. They are currently sitting in fifth place in the Ivy Prep League standings with six league games left to play. All games will be away except for their season finale: a rematch against Riverdale who knocked BVS out of the playoffs last year.

While there have been several disappointing results this season, the boys have played very passionately and hope has only increased. Senior Andre Dangot has had a fantastic season thus far, leading the team with nine goals. Other players, including Jedd Horowitz, Lamine Camara, and Yali Koch have also had especially good seasons. Manager Theo Chalker has repeatedly been quoted saying, “Yali’s devotion to this team is the only reason why we have even won games this season.” In addition to Koch’s brilliance, the underclassmen have also stepped up in huge ways including Max Kaufman and Sam Bienvenu, who have both contributed to a fair share of important plays. The boys look forward to a thrilling end to the season and hopefully, a strong playoff run as November approaches.
