Boys JV Basketball

- Ethan Cohen and Aleksi Sefanov

12/04/19 & 12/09/19

The JV Basketball team started off the season ready to fight against Collegiate. Sadly, the game was an unfortunate loss of 41-66. The starters came out strong led by Alexi Sefanov’s (Sophomore) charge, and there was still hope for a comeback in the first half. However, the team felt a strong gloominess when Dylan Haime (Sophomore) went down with a dislocated shoulder, and the game ultimately came down to Collegiate simply getting more shots at the line. Although it was a loss, it is definitely only the beginning for the JV Basketball team, and with every player getting smarter, faster and more skilled each day, there is lots of promise for the JV’s future. The team’s effort, sportsmanship, unity, and the chemistry is there, and I am confident that they will get their vengeance next game. Good luck this season, guys!

Junior Varsity Basketball has had its ups and downs, as they are going into their last game before the break with a 2-3 record. The first two games were rough, as they lost to both Collegiate and Packer 41-66 and 48-57 respectively, however after a disappointing first few performances, the team lit it up against Poly Prep, scoring 70 points. Devon Morgan (Sophomore), Jedd Horowitz (Freshman), and Aleksi Sefanov combined for over 50 points, as Devon capsized the win with a crazy layup that made the crowd go wild. Against Riverdale, it was a very defensive, low-scoring, and close game, as Fieldston was up by 3 with less than thirty seconds left. However, a clutch free throw made by Cooper Sherman (Freshman) set up a 49-45 win against arguably Fieldston’s biggest rivals. On Monday, the team played away at Trinity, where they lost by 9 in a high-scoring, offensive game 66-75. On Wednesday, the team will head to Berkeley Carrol to play their last game before winter break begins.
